Robot for Sale: What Authorized Dealer Status Means
Search for any robot for sale and the same model turns up at several prices across several sellers. The gap is usually not margin. It is whether the seller is recognized by the manufacturer, which determines how a warranty claim gets handled, whether the unit was built for the US market, and who you call when a part fails in year two. Here is what that difference actually consists of.
What authorized dealer status actually means
An authorized dealer is a seller the manufacturer has formally appointed for a territory. That appointment carries a few practical consequences, and it is worth being precise about which are real.
- The manufacturer recognizes the sale. Your purchase is a valid retail transaction in the manufacturer's records, which is what a warranty claim is checked against.
- The stock came through the official channel. The unit was supplied by the manufacturer or its regional distributor for this market, not sourced from another territory or a liquidation.
- There is an escalation path. A dealer has a contact at the manufacturer. A marketplace reseller usually does not, which is why an unauthorized purchase often turns into emailing the manufacturer and being asked where you bought it.
- Parts and accessories are available. Authorized channels get genuine consumables and spares, which matters more over five years of ownership than anything else on this list.
It does not mean unauthorized sellers are frauds or that their products are counterfeit. Most grey-market stock is genuine product that entered the country outside the official channel. The problem is not authenticity; it is that the paperwork does not line up when you need it to.
RoboticsSelect is an authorized dealer for the brands it carries, including Roborock, Beatbot, Elephant Robotics, WLKATA and LimX Dynamics.
Warranty registration and what the coverage actually says
Warranty terms vary far more between manufacturers than buyers expect, and reading them before purchase costs ten minutes.
The Roborock Qrevo Edge Robot Vacuum with Multifunctional Dock 3.0 is $1,599.99 at the time of writing and carries a 1-year limited manufacturer warranty from the original retail purchase date. Warranty service requires valid proof of purchase: a receipt, invoice or order number. That is where an unauthorized purchase becomes awkward, because the proof has to point at a sale the manufacturer recognizes.
Extended coverage is usually time-boxed to the original sale. The Beatbot Extended Warranty for AquaSense Pro is $399 and takes the standard 12-month warranty to 24 months, covering motors, electronics, the water-clarification system and the chassis. It must be bought within 30 days of the original purchase and cannot be added retroactively. It is transferable to a new owner once during the coverage period. Buy the robot somewhere that cannot sell you the extension and that window closes unnoticed.
Coverage length is not uniform even within one catalog. Beatbot's AquaSense X carries a 3-year full machine replacement warranty. Deep Robotics splits its Lite3 terms: 1 year on electronics, 6 months on joints, legs and battery, or 3 months on units running AI Motion Mode. Neither is guessable from the price.
Firmware, apps and which market the stock was built for
Connected robots are provisioned per market. Firmware builds, app account regions, radio certification and voltage are set at manufacture for the destination territory, and are not always changeable afterwards.
Two examples of how ordinary these constraints are. The Roborock Qrevo Edge connects on 2.4 GHz only, with 5 GHz unsupported, and uses the Roborock app. Beatbot's app is not required for basic operation of the AquaSense X but enables scheduling and remote features. Neither is a defect, and both are worth knowing before the box arrives.
The question worth asking any seller is short: which market was this unit built for, and which regional app account will it pair with? An authorized dealer answers immediately, because the stock came through the channel for that market. A seller who cannot answer has told you something useful.
Spare parts, service and the long tail of ownership
Warranty is a two-year conversation. Parts are a five-year one, and parts decide whether a machine stays in service.
Consider the Deep Robotics Lite3 Pro at $12,510. It has 12 degrees of freedom across four legs, an IP54 rating, an Intel RealSense D435i depth camera and an NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX. Each can need replacing, and the joints and legs carry 6 months of coverage. A machine at that price is bought for a five-year working life, so the question is whether you can order a leg in year three and have it arrive.
The same logic applies at the domestic end for far less money. Filters, brushes and covers are consumables with a service life, and genuine parts separate a robot that keeps working from one that quietly stops being used.
Installation and local service on the outdoor machines
Robotic mowers are where a seller who can actually help pays for itself in the first week, because they are the only consumer robots that require a genuine installation.
The Lymow One Plus 5A Robotic Lawn Mower is $2,999. It covers up to 1.1 acres per day with the included 5A charging station, cuts a 16 inch width at 1.2 to 4.0 inches, handles slopes up to 45 degrees, is rated IPX6 and carries a 3-year manufacturer warranty for residential use. Setup requires mounting the RTK reference station, siting the charging station on flat ground and mapping the lawn through the app before the first cut.
None of that is difficult, but it is where a buyer either gets a straight answer on reference station placement or spends a weekend guessing.
Enterprise robots are quoted, not carted
At the top of the market the channel question stops being optional. The Astribot S1 Humanoid Robot is $100,000, uses two 7-DoF arms on a 4-DoF torso and a 3-DoF omnidirectional base, carries up to 5 kg per arm at full reach and repeats to within plus or minus 0.1 mm. It is build-to-order with an 8 to 12 week lead time, and carries a 24-month manufacturer hardware warranty with 12 months on the battery system.
Machines like that are not sold from a product page. They are quoted, scheduled, delivered and commissioned, and manufacturers do that only through a recognized channel. If one is advertised for immediate shipment at a discount, ask which distributor supplied it.
Read the store's own terms before you buy
Dealer status is one half of the picture. The other half is what the seller commits to in writing. Ours are published in full, and the summary below is accurate at the time of writing.
| Term | What it actually says |
|---|---|
| Returns window | 30 days from receipt to initiate, subject to brand policies that may override it |
| Return condition | Unopened and unused; a restocking fee, usually around 20 percent, may apply |
| Cancellations | Refunded in full before shipment; after shipping, a 25 percent fee plus return shipping |
| Return shipping | Paid by the customer throughout any return or exchange |
| Refund timing | Within 10 days of the returned product being received, back to the original card |
| Return exclusions | Custom and made-to-order items; some products are not returnable once shipped |
| Price match | Competitor must be an online-only authorized retailer with the item in stock; covers item price and shipping, excludes sales tax |
| Price match extras | Beaten by $50 on items over $2,000 with proof; excludes auction sites, rebates, buy-one-get-one and Black Friday or Cyber Monday |
| Shipping | Base curb-side delivery free; threshold and white glove available as paid upgrades; United States only, with limited exceptions |
| Shipping times | Most orders ship in 1 to 5 business days, then 5 to 8 business days in transit |
| Financing | Shop Pay Installments through Affirm, from 0 percent APR by order value and eligibility |
Two details there surprise people. Price matching requires you to buy from us first and then submit the claim, and the competitor must be an authorized retailer, which excludes most cheap listings that prompt the request. The returns policy also asks for products unopened and unused, which is standard here but is not a trial period.
Frequently asked questions
How do I check whether a seller is an authorized robot dealer?
Ask the manufacturer. Most publish a dealer locator or confirm by email within a day, and it is a routine question. You can also ask the seller which distributor supplies them and whether warranty claims are handled through them or the manufacturer.
Is a robot warranty valid if I buy from a marketplace seller?
Sometimes, and the uncertainty is the issue. Manufacturers verify claims against proof of a recognized retail purchase, so coverage depends on whether the unit entered the market through the official channel. Extended warranties are stricter: the Beatbot AquaSense Pro extension must be bought within 30 days of purchase.
Are robots for sale cheaper from grey market importers?
Often, and the saving is real. What you trade away is warranty certainty, regional firmware and app provisioning, and a parts path for year three onward. On a small accessory that may be sensible. On a $12,510 quadruped or a $2,999 mower, the arithmetic points the other way.
Can I buy a robot on finance?
Yes. Shop Pay Installments through Affirm is available at checkout, with rates starting at 0 percent APR and varying by purchase amount and eligibility. It needs a US billing address and mobile number, and Affirm runs a soft credit check that does not affect your score. Enterprise purchases such as the Astribot S1 are handled as quotes.
What happens if a robot arrives damaged?
Inspect the packaging before signing for a freight delivery and note any damage on the paperwork, because that note supports the claim. Then contact the dealer rather than the manufacturer. A damage claim is a different process from a return, and the restocking fees that apply to returns do not apply to it.
