The F1 suits pools that collect floating debris, especially those near trees that drop leaves, pollen, and seeds. By clearing the surface continuously on solar power, it reduces what settles to the floor and eases the load on your filter and pump. Because it is solar powered, it can stay in the pool and work through the day with little attention.

It works in above-ground and in-ground pools of all shapes. As a surface skimmer, it cleans the surface only, so it pairs well with a WYBOT cordless floor cleaner such as the C2 or A1 for complete coverage. Note that solar charging works while the unit is floating in the pool; a DC charger for faster or indoor charging is sold separately.

Setup and Getting Started

Charge before first use: Fully charge the F1 before the first run. Place it in the pool in direct sunlight to charge by solar, or use the optional DC charger (sold separately). Make sure the charging port is dry before connecting the DC charger.

What is the F1 actually for - it's not like the other pool cleaners?

The F1 is a surface skimmer, not a floor or wall cleaner. It floats on top of the water and continuously circulates surface water through its onboard filter, capturing leaves, bugs, pollen, sunscreen film, and other floating debris before they sink. Think of it as an automatic skimmer net that runs all day. Use it alongside a floor-cleaning robot like the C1 or M1 for full pool maintenance.

Does it really run on solar power alone?

Yes. The top of the unit is a solar panel that powers the impeller motor and onboard battery during daylight. In direct sun the F1 runs continuously and stores excess energy in the battery for cloudy periods. It can typically operate 6 to 8 hours after dark on a full battery, though performance drops in extended cloud cover. There is no AC adapter and no plug-in option; the unit is designed for hands-off solar-only operation.

What kind of debris does it collect?

Anything floating on the surface: leaves, grass clippings, twigs, pollen, dead insects, sunscreen and oil film, and small pieces of bark or seed pods. The intake mesh stops particles down to about 200 microns. It does not collect debris on the pool floor or walls - that is what a robotic floor cleaner is for.

How big a pool can the F1 cover?

Pools up to about 800 square feet (74 m²) of surface area. For larger pools, two F1 units can run simultaneously. The F1 drifts based on water currents from your filter return jets, which means it naturally circulates near skimmer intakes where surface debris accumulates. Pools with very calm water (no return-jet circulation) see slightly reduced coverage.

Will it stay where I put it or drift around?

It drifts. The F1 has no GPS and no programmed navigation - it floats freely on water currents. In typical residential pools the return jet flow naturally pushes it across the surface in a circulating pattern that covers the whole pool over the course of an hour or two. Owners with pools that have stagnant zones sometimes nudge it manually with a pool pole once or twice a day.

Is it safe to leave running 24/7?

Yes. Solar-powered skimmers like the F1 are designed for continuous unattended operation. The unit is rated IPX8 against water ingress and the solar panel handles weather. Remove it during pool covering, freezing temperatures (below 32F (0 C) overnight), or when shocking the pool with high chlorine concentrations. Otherwise it can stay in the pool for the entire swim season.

How do I empty the debris basket?

Lift the F1 out of the pool. The basket is on the underside, accessed by twisting off the bottom housing. Tip the contents into a trash bin and rinse the basket under a hose. The basket holds about 1 liter of debris. In light-debris periods (no falling leaves, low pollen) it needs emptying every 3 to 5 days. During fall leaf-drop or heavy pollen weeks, daily emptying is needed to maintain skimming flow.

Does the solar panel work in cloudy weather?

Reduced output but yes. On overcast days the panel still generates 30 to 50 percent of full sun output, which is enough to keep the skimmer running continuously and maintain a partial battery charge. Multiple consecutive cloudy days can drain the battery to the point that the skimmer pauses overnight. It will resume the next morning when the panel produces power again.

Can it handle heavy storm debris?

It can handle moderate storm debris (small twigs, leaves, grass) but very heavy debris loads will fill the basket quickly and may temporarily clog the intake. For storm cleanup, plan on emptying the basket once or twice during the day.
